Balfolk: Welcome Spring
What is balfolk?
Balfolk is a dance style which revived nearly forgotten Western European folk traditions with a modern twist. At a Balfolk ball, everyone is welcome: no partner or experience needed! Throughout the evening, dancers connect and celebrate together, rotating partners and joining in both paired and group dances. Your ticket includes a beginner friendly introduction before the ball, where you’ll learn the most popular dances. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just starting out, Balfolk is designed for fun and accessibility.

About the musicians
Nachtmuziek gives its own twist to balfolk, with jazzy uptempo and lyrical narrative work on trumpet and piano.
Frank (trumpet) is known in balfolk as the Trumpet Gonnagle because of his participation in the band the Gonnagles . Within Nachtmuziek his jazz background comes in handy; feeling, creativity and the interaction with the dancing audience are very important.
Tim (piano) is a composer, pianist and conductor. Within Nachtmuziek his narrative compositions and subtle piano playing are well highlighted. He may seem shy, but is very happy to be asked to dance!
In the hands of TriOblique , the folk music of central-northern France comes back to life, drawing discreetly from modern sounds of rock, pop or dance, without ever losing the firm contact with the ground and the dance steps. Released in May 2022, their first album " Danse Avec Les Renards ", TriOblique has already graced the stages of half of Europe, making thousands of wild feet move!
If you’re coming by car, you can park at the U Parkhotel next to the Vrijhof, where plenty of parking spaces are available.
